Rising Voices

Rising Voices

Teenagers Focus on Conflict, Peace and Protest

Our Rising Voices exhibition showcases the creative work of photographic students at Morpeth Secondary School. They were inspired by the theme and a visit to a recent exhibition of Peter Kennard’s photographic work. The thoughtful and creative work displayed here gives us a unique insight into the minds and lives of Tower Hamlets teenagers and helps us to reflect on the challenges facing our society. It also gives us hope for the future.

When Anna Lubelska the founder of the Peace Building charity approached Amy Wren Head of Art and Photography at Morpeth School with the idea of getting students to express their thoughts and feelings about our troubled world – Amy responded enthusiastically. She got students in Years 7 to 11 involved and some of the Year 12s (who already had their GCSE in photography) to oversee the workshops that she organised.  She also arranged for some documentary photographs to be taken of the process of producing the work for this exhibition.

Morpeth Secondary School is a mixed school for pupils aged 11 to 18 in Bethnal Green,Tower Hamlets. It is a community committed to learning and achievement, based on friendship and respect, where everyone is valued. The student community reflects the diversity of the local community.

The Peace Building charity works to educate generations of peace leaders, particularly through organising peace building youth and community projects and exhibitions.
