New Geographies of (Re)making: Innovative Textile Upcycling

This exhibition presents a unique exploration of textile waste upcycling that redefines sustainable textiles and fashion through creative reuse and innovative material experimentation. Featuring pre-consumer sock and wool waste sourced from UK mills, Soucie’s work is the culmination of her PhD research supported by Kingston University London and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Drawing on historical influences including Pinot Gallizio’s Situationist Industrial Painting, Soucie reimagines obsolete textile machinery and waste textiles as active collaborators—extending what tools, materials, and technologies can do and offer in circular systems. The work introduces Up-cycology and M.E.N.D (Method, Evaluate, Navigate, Design) as new reuse frameworks, supporting a reuse mindset in connection with the experiential, iterative nature of re-making.

The presentation highlights the (re)generative potential of waste and underlines the value of relationship-building and re-making skills across craft, design, and industry—advancing discourse on regenerative and zero-waste design. This exhibition demonstrates how process-driven re-making methods can expand sustainable textiles and fashion practices.

The public is warmly welcomed to join the opening night reception on October 2nd for an inspiring evening or visit during gallery hours to witness innovative creative reuse and the transformative power of textile waste reimagined.
